- 2
One picks a club, one a country
Both picks are made at the same time, in secret. Roles swap every round.
- 3
3-2-1, first to answer wins
Name a player who played for that club and was capped by that country. The first right answer scores.
How a round works
- One player picks a club, the other a country. Both pick at the same time, in secret, within 12 seconds. Run out of time and the server makes a popular pick for you.
- If no player has both played for that club and been capped by that country, the round doesn't count and you pick again with the same roles. If it comes up empty a second time, the server assigns the country.
- If the pairing works, the 3-2-1 countdown starts. Then you both type in the search box and pick a player from the suggestions.
- The first correct answer to reach the server scores and earns a point. A wrong answer locks you out for 2 seconds, and no player can be picked twice in the same round.
- If nobody gets it in time, nobody scores. Roles swap every round, and the first to reach the target score wins the match.
Examples
Bayern Munich × France → Michael Olise
Played for Bayern and has been capped by France.
Juventus × Türkiye → Kenan Yıldız
Plays for the Juventus first team and is a Türkiye international.
Real Madrid × Türkiye → Arda Güler
One of the right answers. Hakan Çalhanoğlu, on the other hand, would be wrong.
What counts?
Nationality means the senior national team(s) a player has been capped by. Youth, Olympic, B and women's teams don't count.
Club means the first team only. Reserve, B and academy sides don't count; loan spells do. Only men's players are in the game.
Suggestions come from the whole database and are never filtered by the round's club or country. Each row shows only the name, position and year of birth.
Daily Match
No opponent? Play the Daily Match: the same five club × country questions for everyone, every day, from easy to hard. You get 30 seconds and 3 tries per question. Your score is the number of questions you get right, with total time as the tiebreaker. It can be played once a day, and you can share your result with friends.
Football XOX
A 3×3 board where the row and column headers can be a club, a national team, a league, a trophy, a manager, a teammate or a wildcard (position, decade of birth, continent). On your turn, pick a square and name a player who meets both conditions; get it right and the square is yours. A wrong answer, or running out of time, hands the turn to your opponent. Each player can only be used once per game. Three in a row — across, down or diagonally — wins.
- League and clubs: a European mix or a single league, with all of its clubs, the big ones (Turkey's Big Four, the Big Six…) or just the clubs you pick.
- Steals: when on, you can take your opponent's square with a different correct answer (3 per game or unlimited).
- Infinite XOX: each player keeps at most three marks; claim a fourth square and your oldest mark disappears. The board never fills up.
- Build the grid together: you take turns picking the headers, and only headers that still lead to a fully answerable grid can be picked.
- Multiple choice: four options in every square, one of them right.
- Best of 3, 5 or 7 games (or unlimited), with the first move alternating between games. If nobody claims a square for a long time, or both sides agree, the game ends in a draw.
- No opponent? Play the bot, or go solo and try to fill all nine squares before the clock runs out.
Managers, teammates and trophies are worked out from Wikidata career dates and Transfermarkt match squads, so older eras can have gaps. To count as teammates, two players need at least two months together at the same club.
Club games
Beşiktaş, Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray and Trabzonspor each have their own page. In every game there, the answers are players who wore that club's shirt:
- Club XOX: just like Football XOX, but every square has a third condition: the player must also have played for the club. In Fenerbahçe XOX, if the row is Napoli and the column is Belgium, the answer is Romelu Lukaku. Play a friend, the bot or solo.
- Career Path: a mystery player's career is on screen, club by club, with the years. Work out who it is. Five players, 45 seconds and 3 tries each. A quick answer with no hints is worth 5 points; every hint (position, year of birth, national team, initials) and every wrong guess costs a point.
- Name Them All: three rounds of 60 seconds. Name as many players as you can from a group of the club's players (a national team, goalkeepers, players who also turned out for the arch-rivals, a manager's favourites…). Each right name is a point, and when the round ends you see the best-known names you missed.
- Squad Showdown: two players only, with a room code. You both have 20 seconds to secretly set a target: how many of the club's players you'll name. Once the targets are revealed it's 3-2-1 and you type at the same time. A name your opponent has already taken is off the table, and a wrong name locks you out for a second. Hit your target and you win. If you both hit it, the higher target wins, so whoever completes a lower target has to wait while the other can still reach theirs. If time runs out and nobody makes it, whoever named more players wins.
Every game lets you pick an era: all time, or only players who were at the club in the 1990s, 2000s, 2010s or 2020s.
Career order and eras come from Wikidata dates and Transfermarkt matches; only first teams in our database are shown.
Match settings
The host picks the target score (3, 5 or 7), the round time (15, 20 or 30 seconds) and the difficulty. On Normal, a pairing needs at least one answer; on Easy, at least three well-known ones.
